Our appreciation goes out to Brenda Barger for serving as Davidson Historical Society president for the last two years. And my personal thanks to her for continuing in the role during my absence last fall. Brenda has been a dedicated DHS board member and we have accomplished a great deal under her leadership.
The DHS completed our program year by presenting two entertaining and educational public programs in the first half of 2007. A good crowd braved the threatening January weather for our Architecture 101 program led by John Rogers. We met at the Ada Jenkins Center in April for a panel discussion on the history of the building as school and community center. We are planning to continue installing our popular historical plaques on Davidson homes this year like the ones installed along Main Street in 2005-06. We are currently researching what houses to include for this next phase. DHS contributed a sizeable portion of the cost for plaques on college homes as well as private residences on Main Street. These plaques designate the early residents of the home as well as the year built. We hope you have noticed them on Main Street.
Are you interested in becoming more involved with the DHS? We are always looking for volunteers! We can find something that suits your interest: serving as a board member, planning future programs, working on publicity, planning activities for special events, leading walking tours as needed. Contact me or any board member if you want to get involved!
I thank each of you who are currently members of the Davidson Historical Society. If you have not yet become a member, I encourage you to join today.
Best Regards,
